On a note card, create an inventory using the guidelines above. Study the note card. Bring it to class with you. Think about the possibilities of other note cards.
A "diamond" character would be one less obvious but nonetheless carries incredible weight. Is Semyonovna a diamond? Would you consider Katerina Ivanovna a diamond, or is she too obvious? Don't work too hard on this. If a MWDS is a way to truncate the novel, then this note card should truncate the MWDS. Both carry an inverted-pyramid-of-complexity idea. I don't know if Maslow would approve. NEW POETRY RESPONSE GUIDELINES:
Wuthering Heights Test Years: 1977, 1979, 1984, 2002, 2005 B, 2007
Hamlet Test Years: 1972, 1988, 1990, 1992, 1999, 2001, 2002 B, 2004 B, 2005, 2007 B, 2009 "The Swimmer" focus questions: How do the elements shift over the course of the story?
What do these shifts suggest about Ned's life and, ultimately, about life in general? How does the structure of Cheever's short prose allude to his point of view? MWDS should be handwritten.
